Mitchell McEwan had two goals and one assist to lead the Gillette Wild to a 6-2 victory over the Cincinnati Swords.
McEwan's tallies came short handed at 6:12 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Gillette and 11:31 into the third to make the score 5-2 Gillette.Gillette also got points from Dalton McCann, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Alex King, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Darren Banks, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Bryce Mitzel also scored for Gillette. Other players who recorded assists for Gillette were Brandon Beard, Sam Cirone, and Kyle Reilly, who contributed one each.
Cincinnati put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gillette to score on any of its four power plays.
The Swords were helped by Chris Hubbard, who finished with one goal. Hubbard scored on the power play 3:55 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cincinnati had gotten the advantage when the Wild's King was sent off for tripping. Andrew Bond picked up the assist. Cincinnati also got a goal from Oliver Ahlberg as well. In addition, Cincinnati received assists from Jessie Fracassi, Brenden Williams, and Gennadi Zabeline, who each chipped in one.
Alex Feese made 24 saves for Gillette on 26 shots. The Wild incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cody Smargiassi recorded 22 saves for the Swords. Cincinnati incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
