Alex Anderson gave the Wisconsin Whalers the lead in the first period, and the Texas Jr. Brahmas was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.
Wisconsin took over the lead for good with a goal by Anderson at 8:37 in the first period. Peter Henderson assisted on the tally.The Whalers were sparked by Ryan Martin, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Martin scored 15:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wisconsin. Henderson picked up the assist.
Wisconsin managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Whalers wound up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.
Wisconsin additionally got points from Adam Schoenfeld, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kaleb Morley also scored for Wisconsin. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Caleb Voster and Zachary Shenderovsky, who contributed one each.
Texas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wisconsin to score on any of its three power plays.
The Jr. Brahmas were helped by Ryan Dunner, who had one goal. Dunner scored 12:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wisconsin. Texas also got a goal from brock brown as well. More assists for Texas came via Jon Grimm and Anthony Koslow, who each chipped in one.
David Volkmann made 23 saves for the Whalers on 25 shots. Texas' Joe Hacker stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Jr. Brahmas incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
