Wisconsin holds on for 3-2 win against Metro

The Metro Jets tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Wisconsin Whalers held on for a 3-2 victory.

Wisconsin made the score 3-1 on a goal by Alex Anderson at 16:12 in the second period, and Metro got as close as 3-2 when Alex Holm scored 11:50 into the third period.

Anderson had one goal and two assists to lead the Whalers.

Wisconsin managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Whalers wound up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.

Wisconsin additionally got points from Ryan Martin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wisconsin also got a goal from Yves Leemann as well. More assists for Wisconsin came via Nathan Viberg, who had one and Peter Henderson, who had two.

The Jets were helped by Zach Koonce, who racked up one goal. Koonce scored 8:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wisconsin. Kyle Shreve assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Metro were Tyler Layle and Graham Day, who each chipped in one.

Chris Johansen rejected 22 shots on goal for Wisconsin. The Whalers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Metro's Jake Stephan stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The Jets incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors and had no power play opportunities.
