ONeill's big game bests Cumberland in 3-1 Kanata win

Behind a great game by Tyler ONeill, who had two goals and one assist, the Kanata Stallions defeated the Cumberland Grads, 3-1.

ONeill scored short handed at 18:03 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while 8:17 into the third to make the score 3-1 Kanata.

Kanata was led by goalie Brian Wilson, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. Wilson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.73 entering the contest.

The Stallions pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 15 penalty minutes.

Cumberland was unable to stop Kanata from sending pucks towards the net, and the Stallions eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Kanata additionally got points from Ian Johnston, who also registered one goal and two assists. More assists for Kanata came via Bryce Biller, who had one.

The Grads put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kanata to score on any of its three power plays. Cumberland's offense rang up 35 shots on the Stallions' net.

The Grads were led by Matthew Morin, who scored the team's only goal. Morin scored on the power play 15:14 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Cumberland had gotten the advantage when Kanata's Johnny Kyte was sent off for holding. Travis Douglas picked up the assist.

The Stallions ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Tropea was ejected from the game. Kevin Gollmer made 37 saves for the Grads on 40 shots. Cumberland totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Grads, Matt Meininger was ejected from the game.
