Neil Doef was all over the ice for the Smiths Falls Bears, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Smiths Falls' 6-3 win over the Pembroke Lumber Kings.
Doef scored short handed at 10:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while 10:20 into the third to make the score 5-3 Smiths Falls.The Bears pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 31 penalty minutes.
Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:13 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.
Smiths Falls found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Bears have scored at the pace of 3.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Team could not crack Pembroke's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.
Smiths Falls additionally got points from Noah Gurr, who also had one goal and one assist and Cole Busschaert, who also registered one goal and two assists. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Ryan Duhaime and Josh Leblanc, who each put in one. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Chris MacMillan, who had two and Jared Henry, Sebastien Barrette, Taylor Henry, and Michael McKenney, who contributed one each.
The Lumber Kings racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Pembroke surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Smiths Falls was unable to stop the Lumber Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Pembroke eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.
The Lumber Kings were helped by Anthony Nellis, who finished with one goal. Nellis scored 3:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Alexandre Boivin picked up the assist. Others who scored for Pembroke included Jesse Blais and Zachary Borsoi, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Colton Keuhl, Dylan Chase, Nolan Redler, and Liam Biard, who each chipped in one.
Michael Pinios rejected 35 shots on goal for the Bears. For Smiths Falls, Craig Cross was ejected from the game. Pembroke's starting goalie, Connor Hughes, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Joel Horodziejczyk, who stopped two shots. The Lumber Kings registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Pembroke ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hudson Michaelis was ejected from the game.
