Marion exits OVL; Madisonville changes owners

The Ohio Valley Summer Collegiate Baseball League should have a bit of a new look next season.

The Marion Bobcats, who finished last season with a 6-36 mark, won’t compete next season after an sufficient number of host families could not be found, according to OVL President Gordon Guess.

“People have to house ball players, and they didn’t come forth,” Guess said Tuesday in a phone interview.
Guess, who resides in Marion, said the team’s struggles are fairly standard.

“What we’re going through right now is really routine. These small-market teams like us struggle like crazy, and you have to have a lot of luck to be able to make it,” Guess said. “We’ve made money the last three years, but it wasn’t a lot. Nevertheless, if you don’t have the beds and the host families, you’re dead.”
