Pioneers Add MLB Draft Pick to Pitching Rotation

The Utica Brewers announced this afternoon that former Pitching Coach Russell Jacob will be the team's Head Coach in 2014. Jacob, played professionally for eight seasons as a member of the Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox organizations. Originally drafted in the 26th round of the 1993 MLB draft, he quickly ascended to "AA" before an elbow injury derailed his career.
After completing his playing career, Jacob began coaching with the IBC Baseball League and Polk State College. In 2011, as the Brewers Pitching Coach, he helped guide the team to a league best 41-14 record, a league leading 2.36 ERA, an NYCBL Eastern Division Championship and an NABF National Championship.
