Mississippi Surge tried to dig itself out of a two-goal hole, but the Fayetteville FireAntz held on for a 3-2 victory. Mississippi Surge was helped by Jeff Grant, who tallied one goal. Grant scored 43 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Kyle VanderMale assisted on the tally. 

 

 

The FireAntz were helped by Brian Elser, who racked up one goal. Elser scored on the power play 8:06 into the third period to make the score Fayetteville. Fayetteville had gained a power play chance when Tommy Lange was whistled for boarding. Josh McQuade provided the assist. Fayetteville also got a goal from Brandon Richardson as well. More assists for Fayetteville came via Tristin Llewellyn, who had two and Derek Elliott and Bobby Reed, who each chipped in one. Fayetteville took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Mississippi Surge storm back on a Derek Graham goal 11:49 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

 

The FireAntz's penalty kill excelled, as Fayetteville gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. The FireAntz average 29.1 shots on goal per game, but only sent 22 pucks on net against Mississippi Surge. Fayetteville took advantage of Mississippi Surge's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities.

 

 

Marco Emond made 22 saves for the FireAntz on 24 shots. Fayetteville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kiefer Smiley recorded 19 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
