MACKY POWER BECOMES IDAHO JUNIOR STEELHEADS ALL TIME LEADING SCORER

Date:  Source: WSHL: Idaho Jr. Steelheads

With his two goal and six assist performance against the Seattle Totems in three home games last weekend, Macky Power has become the all time Idaho Junior Steelheads leader in both goals and total points in his third full season with the team.

Power, originally from Altoona, Pennsylvania, but whose family has moved to Boise during his Junior Steelheads tenure, now has 70 goals and 96 assists for 166 points.

The 70 goals surpasses the 68 achieved by forward Nathan Stanley.

The 166 points eclipses the 163 points earned by forward Stephan Brucato.

Power’s 96 assists are now second only to Brucato’s career total of 107.  With six games left in the 2015-2016 regular season, Power has an opportunity to become the all-time assists leader, also.

The 5’10” 175 lb Power, who will celebrate his 21st birthday on Saturday, March 5, joined the Junior Steelheads in the 2013-2014 season.  He averaged a point a game, scoring 16 goals and 22 assists in 38 games with a most gentlemanly 8 penalty minutes.

In the playoffs, Power added two goals and an assist in 10 games.

In the 2014-2015 season, Power increased his production to 29 goals and 34 assists for 63 points in 37 games.

In the Junior Steelheads’ run to regain the Thorne Cup, Power had three goals and six assists in 11 playoff games.

The speedy forward has played the right wing position through most of his Idaho career.  However, recently he has also started at the center position, and, in a game against the Tahoe Icemen recently, even drew a start as a defenseman.

He and defenseman Dimitris Jones, who just set the record for most games played in for the Junior Steelheads, were chosen as 2016 WSHL All-Stars and participated in the All-Star Game on January 2.

Prior to joining the Junior Steelheads, Power had enjoyed a season of more than 100 points for Holidaysburg High School in the Altoona area.
