Motor City bounces Irish, off to MWJHL finals

The Motor City Monarchs are off to the Veteran's Memorial Cup finals after eliminating the Detroit Fighting Irish in the deciding Game 3 semifinal Sunday afternoon at Fraser Hockeyland.

The Monarchs will play the two-time defending champion Traverse City Hounds starting next weekend.

Four different players - Bryce Peplinski, Zach Kopinski, Jarrad Vroman and Adam Jonak - scored and Derrick Treppa chipped in two assists for the first-year Monarchs.

Motor City goalie Stephan Demmers finished with 27 saves.

Ken Winter scored Detroit's lone goal and Jacob Gorzelski and George Hill made 47 saves between the pipes.

Game 1 of the finals is Friday at 8 p.m., with Game 2 Saturday night at 7 p.m. and if necessary, Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

All games will be at Centre ICE in Traverse City.
