Twice as nice: Krejcik chosen Goaltender of the Year

The Midwest Junior Hockey League today announced that David Krejcik of the Traverse City Hounds has been named Goaltender of the Year, as voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.

This is the consecutive season that Krejcik has been named Goaltender of the Year, as he also won the award in 2013-14 when he was also selected Rookie of the Year.

In 2014-15, Krejcik led all MWJHL goaltenders with a 21-2-1-1 record, a 2.03 goals-against average, a .937 save percentage and three shutouts for the Hounds, who clinched first overall for the third season in a row.

Krejcik is also the third Hounds’ goaltender to take home this honor as Andrew Brownlee, now at NCAA Division III Finlandia University, won the award in 2013 when the Hounds played in Hartland, Mich.

“It’s a no-brainer for David to be Goaltender of the Year,” Traverse City head coach Scott Gardiner said. “He’s been our most consistent player these past two seasons and has been truly outstanding for us. He deserves this award and more importantly, he’s earned it. He’ll be tough to replace next season and we’ll certainly miss him.”

Krejcik, a 1994-born native of the Czech Republic, also collected Goaltender of the Month honors in October and was named Goaltender of the Week on Oct. 21 and Dec. 9.

“David is a great player on the ice and off the ice, is a great kid,” added Hounds’ head coach Jacek Wilk. “Everyone in the locker room has the utmost respect for David and he is one of the few kids in the league that consistently brings his game. Without David, we certainly would have lost more games this year. I’m glad that I had a chance to work with him for the last two years. I know he can take it far in hockey at a college or professional level and it will be exciting to follow his career.”

The Hounds, who earned a first-round bye in the Veteran’s Memorial Cup Playoffs, open the semifinals this weekend at Centre ICE against the No. 6 seed Soo Firehawks. Game times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night and if necessary, Game 3 on Sunday will start at 1 p.m.

All games will be broadcast on www.fasthockey.com.

The MWJHL Defenseman of the Year will be announced on Thursday, Forward of the Year on Friday and Organization of the Year next week.
