THIRD TEAM TO OFFICIALLY JOIN THE GWL

PORTLAND, OREGON, MARCH 10, 2015 - The Great West League is proud to announce the addition of Portland, Oregon to the league.  The announcement was made today in front of over 100 guests at the Rotary Club of Portland Rose City Baseball, LLC, Portland Parks & Recreation, and the Portland Development Commission are partnering to bring the team to east Portland and historic Walker Stadium.

"There's been a void in the city since the Portland Beavers left, and having baseball so conveniently located for fans in east Portland will be terrific", says Ken Wilson, President and CEO of Rose City Baseball, as well as President of the Great West League.  "We're excited to bring affordable family entertainment to Portland and we believe Walker Stadium will be one of the most exciting ball parks in the country."

The new Walker Stadium, originally constructed in 1956, will have a capacity of 1,500, including group event areas. The updated Walker Stadium will cater to fans' enjoyment of professional-style baseball with amenities including multiple concession stands, new chair-back seating, a new scoreboard and a children's play area.

"We'll have the most exciting entertainment in Portland, and we want the half-million people within 15 minutes of the ball park to know that this team belongs to them," adds Wilson.

"We're finally seeing some real development in the Lents neighborhood," Portland Mayor Charlie Hales said.  "The team and stadium improvements will be great for Lents and the entire east Portland area."

"Baseball has been missed in Portland, and I am excited to have the game returning," said Portland Parks Commissioner Amanda Fritz.  "I appreciate that this public/private partnership provides stadium improvements that all Portlanders can enjoy."
