BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. - James Smith recorded a goal and two assists and Jacob Hernandez scored a pair of goals to lift the Detroit Fighting Irish past the Michigan Ice Dogs by a 6-4 count Sunday afternoon at the Ice Box Sports Center.
Shawn Eastman contributed a goal and an assist to go along with single goals from Eric Long and Ken Winter in the win for the first-place Irish.
Detroit goaltenders George Hill and Jacob Gorzelski combined to make 28 saves, with Gorzelski earning the victory.
Marc Rotondo led the Ice Dogs’ offense with two goals and two assists and Steven Dunn also scored twice.
Zach June (pictured) tacked on two assists and Jacob Mulka turned aside 54 shots between the pipes.
The two teams play again Friday night at 8:30 p.m. at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena.
