MC Monarchs squeaks by Decatur Blaze, 4-3

MC Monarchs gutted out a close 4-3 win against Decatur Blaze.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Adam Jonak secured the win for MC Monarchs with a goal in the third period.

MC Monarchs was sparked by Jonak, who had one goal and one assist. Jonak scored on the power play 18:53 into the third period to make the score 4-3 MC Monarchs. MC Monarchs had gotten the advantage when Decatur Blaze's Micah Young was sent off for boarding. Joseph Gibbs provided the assist.

MC Monarchs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Decatur Blaze was unable to stop MC Monarchs from sending pucks towards the net, and MC Monarchs eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. MC Monarchs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

MC Monarchs also had goals scored by Anthony Wojciechowski, Tory Shand, and Jarrad Vroman, who scored one goal each. In addition, MC Monarchs received assists from Bryce Peplinski, who had one and Derrick Treppa, who had two.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Decatur Blaze was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Decatur Blaze was helped by Richard Mischak, who racked up one goal. Mischak scored 10:00 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Brandon Adler picked up the assist. Others who scored for Decatur Blaze included Garret Maged and Luka Znidarsic, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Decatur Blaze were John Urmetz and Curtis Schlereth, who contributed one each.

Marquise Almeida recorded 19 saves for MC Monarchs. MC Monarchs registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Decatur Blaze's Matthew Hatcher stopped 45 shots out of the 49 that he faced.
