Late in December 2013 and group of Squirts travelled to Hershey, PA to compete in the Peewee B division.  Despite the odds of being at a disadvantage because, in order to be in this tournament at all, they would have to "play up," coaches and a majority of parents decided to go ahead and enter into the Jr. Hershey Bears Christmas tournament.  On the day after Christmas, sixteen families and their children, and sixteen East Coast Eagles 'Squirt' players, left Raleigh and headed 400 miles north to Hershey, PA.  They won their first game 5-3, then their second 7-1.   People scratched their heads.   This was the only team from south of the Mason-Dixon Line.  All the rest were from Pennsylvania and points north.   Overheard were conversations from the opposition to the effect that, "This team is from North Carolina…. what do they know about hockey?"  But they clearly knew something, for on they went to win the third game 2-1 and the fourth game 6-2.  They went into the semi-finals, undaunted.  In a super-exciting close match all the way to the final nail-biting minutes of the 3rd period, they won 3-2.   Then came the final game of the tournament, and the East Coast Eagles Squirts emerged victorious winning with a 5-0 shut out for goalie Nate Glenn.
