Bantam A Closes Home Season against Hampton Roads Whalers
Date: Feb 4, 2015
Recently, the ECE Squirt B team participated in a service project entitled "Pennies for Pets." For three months, they raised money by setting up jars at local businesses which included Five Hole Sports, and the Wake Forest Polar Ice House. They also went around their neighborhoods and asked neighbors to participate and they even donated some of their own spare change. After raising $400, the Valas Family decided to match their efforts and donated another $400. This inspired this young team to do more and within a few days, they raised another $44! The money raised goes primarily towards administering medical attention to the animals.
On Saturday, February 7th, the Squirt B team visited the SPCA and learned how the SPCA is managed and other ways that they can help. The SPCA is a non profit organization that relies on the community for help. Blankets, food and money help to keep this organization in business. The team also learned that the SPCA of Raleigh is a no kill facility and the animals stay there until they are adopted! By participating in this project, the team learned that you are never too young to make a difference in the community. They also learned that just as in hockey, when a group of individuals work together as a team, greater results can be achieved then working individually!
The Squirt B team would like to challenge other teams and individuals to find an area where they would like to make a difference and to get out, get involved and make things happen!
Go Eagles!
