Exeter blows out Aylmer, 5-1

The Aylmer Spitfires had trouble finding ways to stop the Exeter Hawks, which beat Spitfires, 5-1.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Aylmer faces elimination next time out.

The Spitfires were stymied by Exeter's netminder Trevor Fleming, who stopped 35 shots during the victory. The solid play of Fleming will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.26.

The Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 34 penalty minutes.

Exeter excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Hawks kept Aylmer's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Harriman-Duke made 34 saves on 39 shots.

Exeter was helped by Sam Vokes, who registered one goal. Vokes scored 12:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Exeter. Max Bannon provided the assist. Exeter additionally got points from Brett Dalton, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Chase Thornton, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Exeter also had goals scored by Tyler Kettler and Liam Melady, who each put in one. In addition, Exeter received assists from Austin Elkin, who had one.

The Spitfires' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Exeter power plays. Aylmer forced the Hawks goalie Fleming to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Spitfires were led by Luke Bettencourt, who scored the team's only goal. Bettencourt scored 13:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Exeter. Josh Lockhart assisted on the tally.

Aylmer incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
