Vandenelzen nets hat trick, leads Mt.Brydges to 8-3 win over Lucan

The Lucan Irish could not stop the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs' Mike Vandenelzen, who tallied a hat trick in an 8-3 win.

Vandenelzen's first goal came 47 seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 9:45 into the second and at 19:20 into the second.

After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Lucan faces elimination next time out.

Mt.Brydges forced Irish's goalies to work in net, ripping 42 shots and forcing 34 saves. Mike Lindner made 20 stops and Tyler Beattie made 14. The Bulldogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Irish to score on any of their five power plays.

Mt.Brydges also got points from Alex Cox, who also registered one goal and four assists to lead the team in points and Antoine Brochu, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Mt.Brydges included Austin Blais, Jake Watkins, and Danny Nickles, who scored one goal each. More assists for Mt.Brydges came via Jack Underhill, who had four and Randy Hicks, Cameron Dewan, and Isaac McGladdery, who contributed one each.

Lucan was led by Dawson Cook, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Cook scored 7:13 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Mt.Brydges. Lucan also had goals scored by Mitch Morin and Connor Lyttle, who each put in one. In addition, Lucan received assists from Noah Campbell, who had one.

Noah Hedrick made 25 saves for Mt.Brydges on 28 shots. The Bulldogs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Irish incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
