Caledonia shrugs off penalties, upends Guelph, 5-2Western Fair CC Sun, Sep 13, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Caledonia Corvairs were able to defeat the Guelph Hurricanes, 5-2. Caledonia was led by Blake Luscombe, who registered one goal. Luscombe scored on the power play 40 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Corey Pawley picked up the assist. The Corvairs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. Caledonia could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 52 minutes in penalties during the game. Caledonia additionally got points from Ryan Punkari, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Caledonia included Scott Dorion, Matt McCartney, and Jake Brown, who scored one goal each. More assists for Caledonia came via Riley Vanhorne, Mackenzie MacSorley, Matt Rimac, and JC Thivierge, who each chipped in one. Mark Sinclair rejected 13 shots on goal for the Corvairs. Caledonia registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Jason DaSilva recorded 17 saves for Guelph. The Hurricanes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Guelph ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stefano Pezzetta was ejected from the game.
