Listowel holds on for 6-4 win against Chatham

The Chatham Maroons tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Listowel Cyclones held on for a 6-4 victory.

Listowel made the score 6-3 on a goal by Ben Shelley at 5:11 in the third period, and Chatham got as close as 6-4 when Brayden Hopkins scored 10:01 into the third period.

Chayse Herrfort had two goals to lead the Cyclones to victory. Herrfort's tallies came at 4:37 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and on the power play 3:03 into the third to make the score 5-3 Listowel.

Listowel forced the Maroons goalie Parker Butler to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Cyclones outdid their season average for goals scored. Listowel averages 3.9 goals per game.

Listowel additionally got points from Jamie Huber, who also registered one goal and two assists. In addition, Listowel received assists from Blake Pickering, Brady Anderson, and Ray McFalls, who each chipped in one and Kade Landry and Jordan Caskenette, who contributed two each.

Chatham kept the Cyclones' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Fassl made 28 saves on 32 shots. The Maroons were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 42 penalty minutes.

Chatham was led by Ian Faubert, who racked up three goals. More assists for Chatham came via Dede Cato, Ben Nicholls, Gus Ford, Logan Percy, Mark Fratarcangelli, Ross Krieger, and Steven Beenackers, who each chipped in one.

Listowel incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Butler rejected 39 shots on goal for the Maroons. Chatham registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. The Maroons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hunter Burk was ejected from the game.
