Ancaster hangs on, beats Cambridge 2-0

Zach Jackson gave the Ancaster Avalanche the lead in the first period, and the Cambridge Winter Hawks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Jackson provided Ancaster with the game-winning tally when he scored 10:26 into the first period. Cole Nagy picked up the assist.

Matt Calas frustrated Cambridge's offense all game, and stopped 34 shots en route to a shutout. Calas certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.86 entering the contest.

The Avalanche were led by Jackson, who had one goal.

Ancaster excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Avalanche's offense operated below their season average. Ancaster averages 4.7 goals per game. The Avalanche was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Ancaster gives up 2.9 goals on average per game.

Ancaster also got a goal from Lucas Pozzobon as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Ryan Sullivan and Ryan Knill, who each chipped in one.

The Winter Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Cambridge puts an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game. The Winter Hawks' offense rang up 34 shots on the Avalanche's net. Cambridge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Ancaster incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Winter Hawks' Owen Savory stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. For Cambridge, Kevin Lanoix was ejected from the game.
