Lambton Shores falls to Elmira after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Elmira Sugar Kings battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the Lambton Shores Predators.

Elmira let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Sugar Kings took a 4-3 advantage on a power play goal by Ethan Skinner at 2:36 in the third period. Elmira went down 3-1 after Lambton Shores' Connor Merritt put the puck home at 2:08 in the second period. After tying things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Brett Corrigan at 16:15 in the third, the Sugar Kings got the game-winner from Skinner at 17:58 in the third period.

The Predators were unable to stop Elmira from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sugar Kings eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Elmira additionally got points from Rob Kohli, who also had one goal and one assist. Jeff Jordan also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Ryley Cribbin, Alex Peterson, Ty Jackson, and Ryan Maksymyk, who contributed one each and Mitch Montgomery and Zac Coulter, who each chipped in two.

Lambton Shores forced Elmira goalie Mike Black to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Predators were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 48 penalty minutes.

Lambton Shores was helped by Brenden Trottier, who racked up one goal and one assist. Trottier scored 4:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lambton Shores. Andrew Kim assisted on the tally. Lambton Shores also got points from Corrigan, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Lambton Shores also got a goal from Marcel Berube as well. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Ben Woo, Ethan Sarfati, Ryan Fraser, and Luke McEachnie, who contributed one each.

The Sugar Kings' Black stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Elmira incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Anthony Hurtubise made 32 saves for the Predators on 37 shots. Lambton Shores registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
