Thorold wins tough contest against Brampton, 4-2

The Thorold Blackhawks gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Brampton Bombers.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Anthony Postiglione's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Thorold pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 37 penalty minutes.

Brampton's Michael Antonio Vergara could not handle what the Blackhawks threw at him, as Thorold netted its goals off of seven.

The Blackhawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Brampton power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Thorold additionally got points from Francois Plamondon, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Daniel Pugliese, who also had one goal and one assist. Jake Lloyd also scored for Thorold. In addition, Thorold received assists from Tyler Sehovic, who had two and Cosimo Amore, David D`Agostino, and Francesco Gigliotti, who contributed one each.

The Bombers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Brampton surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bombers stifled Thorold's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blackhawks were unable to stop Brampton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bombers eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Brampton was helped by Mitch Shennette, who registered one goal. Shennette scored 58 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Marcus Payne assisted on the tally. Brampton also got a goal from John Brindley as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Jason Rhynold, who had one.

Josh Astorino made 31 saves for Thorold on 33 shots. The Blackhawks registered zero goals on 10 power play opportunities. Thorold ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Aaron Nunes was ejected from the game. The Bombers' Vergara stopped three shots out of the five that he faced. Team's Cameron Cruickshank and Lucas Toth were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
