Welland completes comeback, beats Fort Erie, 4-3

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Welland Jr. Canadians battled back to claim a 4-3 victory over the Fort Erie Meteors.

Welland let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Jr. Canadians took a 3-2 advantage on a power play goal by Adam Barron at 6:12 in the second period. Welland found itself down 2-0 after Fort Erie's Mike Masotti put the puck home at 6:27 in the first period. After tying things up at 3-3 on a goal by Connor Schmalz at 6:50 in the third, the Jr. Canadians got the game-winner from Cole Hamilton at 11:08 in the third period.

Welland got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Others who scored for Welland included Dorian Maye and Jake Shaw, who scored one goal each. More assists for Welland came via Bradey Johnson, who had two and Matt Murphy, Nathan MacDuff, Matt Martin, and Nicholas Boehmer, who contributed one each.

The Meteors' offense rang up 47 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net.

Fort Erie was helped by Danial Singer, who tallied one goal and two assists. Singer scored on the power play 4:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. The Meteors earned a power play opportunity when MacDuff was put in the box for boarding. Ben Evans picked up the assist. Fort Erie also got points from Schmalz, who also had one goal and one assist.

Chris Janzen rejected 44 shots on goal for Welland. The Jr. Canadians incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Fort Erie's Riley Daniels stopped 18 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Meteors incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
