Elmira squeaks by Stratford, 3-2

The Elmira Sugar Kings gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Stratford Cullitons.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Ethan Skinner secured the win for Elmira with a goal in the third period.

The Sugar Kings were led by Skinner, who tallied one goal. Skinner scored on the power play 18:36 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Elmira. Elmira had gotten the advantage when Stratford's Tyson Baker was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Zac Coulter picked up the assist.

The Sugar Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Others who scored for Elmira included Rob Kohli and Kyle Soper, who scored one goal each. In addition, Elmira received assists from Zac Cameron, Alex Peterson, and Ryan Maksymyk, who contributed one each.

The Cullitons' offense operated below their season average. Stratford averages 4.5 goals per game. The Cullitons kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Reinhart made 37 saves on 39 shots.

Stratford was led by Drew Gross, who had one goal. Gross scored 15:22 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Justin Graham provided the assist. Stratford also had goals scored by Tristan Hohl and Hayden Broomhead, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Deven Kropf and Jared Nash, who each chipped in one.

The Sugar Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Carson Poulin made 27 saves for the Cullitons on 30 shots. Stratford incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
