Caledonia shrugs off penalties, upends Ancaster, 2-1Morgan Firestone Sat, Feb 27, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Caledonia Corvairs were able to defeat the Ancaster Avalanche, 2-1. Caledonia was paced by Daniel Volpe, who grabbed one goal. Volpe scored 10:47 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Blake Luscombe provided the assist. The Corvairs were held below their usual level of production. Caledonia puts an average of 5.9 pucks into the net per game. The Corvairs forced Ancaster goalie Cole Ceci to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Jacob Bianchi also scored for Caledonia. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Ryan Punkari, Corey Pawley, and Todd Ratchford, who each chipped in one. The Avalanche excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Ancaster's offense operated below its season average. The Avalanche average 4.1 goals per game. Ancaster was led by Jesse Hilton, who scored the team's only goal. Hilton scored on the power play 6:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster. The Avalanche earned a power play opportunity when Matthew Hore was put in the box for boarding. Lucas Pozzobon assisted on the tally. Mark Sinclair made 16 saves for Caledonia on 17 shots. The Corvairs incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Caledonia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hore was ejected from the game. Ceci recorded 38 saves for Ancaster. The Avalanche incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
