Desjardins' big game bests Pelham in 6-2 Welland win

The Welland Jr. Canadians' Patrick Desjardins had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-2 win over the Pelham Panthers.

Desjardins' tallies came at 6:38 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Welland and on the power play 9:57 into the third to make the score 5-2 Welland.

Welland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Pelham power plays. The Jr. Canadians forced Pelham goalie Stephen Harvey to work between the pipes, taking 54 shots. Welland surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jr. Canadians have scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign. Welland's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Welland additionally got points from Jack Fitzgerald, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Nicholas Boehmer, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tyler Stranges, who also had one goal and one assist. Cole Hamilton also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Dylan Daigneault, who had two and Bradey Johnson, Matt Martin, Andy Paul, and Steven Farano, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers kept the Jr. Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon McCorriston made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Pelham was helped by Bradley Smith, who tallied one goal. Smith scored 44 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Pelham. Liam Little picked up the assist. Pelham also got points from Little, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Pelham came via Dylan Cancilla, Jeffrey Venzon, and Cameron DeFazio, who contributed one each.

Welland incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Panthers' Harvey stopped 48 shots out of the 54 that he faced. Pelham incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
