Russell leads LaSalle over St. Thomas, 9-3

The LaSalle Vipers' Tyler Russell had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 9-3 win over the St. Thomas Stars.

Russell scored short handed at 19:21 into the first period to make the score 4-2 LaSalle and again while 16:55 into the second to make the score 7-3 LaSalle.

LaSalle forced Stars' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 49 shots and forcing 40 saves. Nikolas Dampier made 32 stops and Dan Black made eight. The Vipers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Thomas to score on any of its three power plays. LaSalle surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Vipers average 4.3 goals per contest.

LaSalle additionally got points from Nikko Sablone, who also had one goal and one assist, Liam MacDougall, who also registered three goals and one assist, and Nathan Savage, who also tallied two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. LaSalle also got a goal from Eric Kirby as well. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Daniel Beaudoin, who had three, Zack Hoffman and Connor Matton, who each chipped in one, and Manny Silverio and Brett Primeau, who contributed two each.

The Stars kept LaSalle's goalie busy throughout the game, and Eli Billing made 37 saves on 40 shots.

St. Thomas was helped by Lucas Mastroianni, who racked up one goal. Mastroianni scored 3:33 into the second period to make the score 4-3 LaSalle. Spencer Hutchinson picked up the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Hutchinson, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Matt McJannet also scored for St. Thomas. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Jake Reed, Carson Moniz, Adam Keyes, Nathan Ferris, and Gage Stephney, who each chipped in one.

The Vipers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Stars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
