Koviak's goals lift Chatham to 6-3 victory over SarniaSarnia Arena Thu, Feb 25, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Connor Koviak was all over the ice for the Chatham Maroons, as he tallied two goals in Chatham's 6-3 win over the Sarnia Legionnaires. Koviak scored on the power play at 6:02 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Chatham and again while short handed 12:56 into the third to make the score 5-3 Chatham.The Maroons' penalty kill excelled, as Chatham gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. The Maroons stifled Sarnia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Chatham forced the Legionnaires goalie Aidan Hughes to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Maroons could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Chatham additionally got points from Ian Faubert, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Chatham included Devin Panzeca, Steven Beenackers, and Teddy McGeen, who scored one goal each. More assists for Chatham came via Dede Cato, who had three and Connor McKinnon, Ryan Fraser, Declan Conway, and Cory Bussing, who each chipped in one. Sarnia's offense rang up 34 shots on Chatham's net. The Legionnaires were helped by Brandon Layman, who had one goal. Layman scored 4:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia. Ryan Vendramin picked up the assist. Sarnia also had goals scored by Jarret Marks and Eric Marsh, who each put in one. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Ryan Trottier, Nash Nienhuis, and Brock Perry, who contributed one each. Parker Butler rejected 31 shots on goal for the Maroons. Chatham registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Sarnia's Hughes stopped 35 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Legionnaires incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
