The LaSalle Vipers and the Sarnia Legionnaires were evenly matched throughout their contest, but LaSalle made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Eric Kirby's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Vipers' penalty kill excelled, as LaSalle gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Vipers were led by Kirby, who finished with one goal. Kirby scored short handed 16:43 into the third period to make the score 3-2 LaSalle. LaSalle played down a man on Connor Matton's head contact. Eli Billing picked up the assist.

The Vipers stifled Sarnia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. LaSalle's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Vipers finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for LaSalle included Tyler Russell and Brett Primeau, who each put in one. More assists for LaSalle came via Blake Jones, who had two and Clay Kraynack, Nikko Sablone, and Brett Banwell, who each chipped in one.

The Legionnaires put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow LaSalle to score on any of its five power plays. The Vipers were unable to stop Sarnia from sending pucks towards the net, and the Legionnaires eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Sarnia was helped by Brendan Shagena, who grabbed one goal. Shagena scored 7:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia. Eric Marsh assisted on the tally.
