Kitchener downs Guelph in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Kinsmen Arena Tue, Feb 16, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Guelph Hurricanes on a clutch goal by Alex Demrovsky. Kitchener pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 21 penalty minutes. The Dutchmen were paced by Demrovsky, who grabbed one goal. Demrovsky scored 4:10 into overtime to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. Jason Willms assisted on the tally. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:18 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Kitchener was held below its usual level of production. The Dutchmen average 4.9 goals per game. Kitchener kept Guelph's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason DaSilva made 35 saves on 37 shots. Ryan George also scored for Kitchener. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Owen Lane, who had one. The Hurricanes' offense operated below their season average. Guelph puts an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Hurricanes were led by Cameron Stokes, who scored the team's only goal. Stokes scored on the power play 5:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph. Guelph had gotten the advantage when the Dutchmen's Michael Alberga was sent off for slashing. Stefano Pezzetta picked up the assist. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zack Hedley was ejected from the game. The Hurricanes totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-6 on the power play. Team's Cameron Palmer and Brody Milne were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
