Fort Erie survives St. Catharines comeback, wins 7-5

The St. Catharines Falcons tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Fort Erie Meteors would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 7-5.

A goal by Holden Garlent put Fort Erie up 7-4 in the third period, but St. Catharines pulled to within two on Brandon Cercone's tally 19:56 into the third period.

The Meteors got the win on the strength of a great game by Ben Evans, who had two goals and three assists. Evans scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:02 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Fort Erie. Fort Erie had gained a power play chance when Broderick Kelly was whistled for slashing. Garlent assisted on the tally. Evans' next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Fort Erie with 2:56 left in the third period. A goalie interference penalty on Tyler Jackson had put the Meteors on the power play. Danial Singer picked up the assist.

Fort Erie kept the Falcons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joel Horodziejczyk made 24 saves on 31 shots. The Meteors outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Fort Erie averages 3.7 goals per contest.

Fort Erie also got points from Singer, who also registered two goals and one assist, Anthony Passero, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Garlent, who also had two goals and two assists. More assists for Fort Erie came via Cody Petawabano, who had two, Bryce Martin, who had three, and Paolo Sivilotti and Troy Henley, who each chipped in one.

The Meteors were unable to stop St. Catharines from sending pucks towards the net, and the Falcons eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. St. Catharines gave up more goals than its normal season average. The Falcons average 2.4 goals allowed per game. The defensemen of St. Catharines were also effective in Fort Erie's zone, and came away with two goals. The Falcons could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

St. Catharines was led by Anthony Postiglione, who finished with one goal and one assist. Postiglione scored 13:14 into the third period to make the score 4-4. James Guest provided the assist. St. Catharines also had goals scored by Justin Felker, Jake Evans, and Tyler Hildebrandt, who scored one goal each. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Tanner Allen, Nicholas Dozzi, Noah Perlic, and Brady Lee, who contributed one each.

Riley Daniels made 31 saves for the Meteors on 36 shots. Fort Erie incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Falcons registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
