Trottier lifts Sarnia over St. Marys, 5-2

The Sarnia Legionnaires relied on the scoring touch of Ryan Trottier, who netted two goals, to beat the St. Marys Lincolns, 5-2.

Trottier scored at 9:32 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Sarnia and again while on the power play 10:44 into the second to make the score 4-1 Sarnia.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:02 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Sarnia was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Legionnaires had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Sarnia additionally got points from Ryan Vendramin, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Hunter Tyczynski, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Sam McCormack, who had three and Jordan Fogarty, Nash Nienhuis, Brett Storr, and Alec DeKoning, who each chipped in one.

St. Marys was led by Graham Brulotte, who racked up one goal. Brulotte scored on the power play 8:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Marys. A slashing penalty on Brendan Shagena had put the Lincolns on the power play. Jeff Schrattner provided the assist. St. Marys also got a goal from Jordan Winter as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Phillip Buque, Tristan Gallant, and Brent House, who contributed one each.

Aidan Hughes rejected 21 shots on goal for Sarnia. The Legionnaires registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Sarnia, Shagena was ejected from the game. Emanuel Vella made 22 saves for St. Marys on 27 shots. The Lincolns totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. St. Marys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brennan Stapleton was ejected from the game.
