Brantford hangs on, beats Guelph 4-2

The Brantford 99ers beat the Guelph Hurricanes, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 3:35 into the first period by Jack Phibbs proved to be the game winner, and powered Brantford to the victory. The 99ers had gained a power play chance when Sebastian Stangherlin was whistled for holding. Kyle Walker picked up the assist.

Brantford got the win thanks to a great game by Jay Dekker, who had two goals and one assist. Dekker scored the first of his two goals at 10:36 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Brantford. Alec Tiley assisted on the tally. Dekker's next tally made the score 4-2 Brantford with 1:10 left in the third period. Walker picked up the assist.

The 99ers stifled Guelph's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Brantford also got points from Tiley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Guy Polillo, who had two and Justin Donnelly and Brandon Scanlin, who contributed one each.

The Hurricanes forced Brantford goalie Will Rawski to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Guelph could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hurricanes were helped by Dylan Wallace, who had one goal. Wallace scored 10:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Brantford. Ryan Waterhouse provided the assist. Chris Poletek also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Jake Wyse, Sean Power, and Brody Milne, who each chipped in one.

Will Rawski made 37 saves for the 99ers on 39 shots. Brantford incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Christian Propp rejected 21 shots on goal for Guelph. The Hurricanes registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
