Niagara Falls rips Welland, 7-2

The Niagara Falls Canucks had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Niagara Falls got the win with help from a great game by Zack Lansfield, who had two goals and one assist. Lansfield scored the first of his two goals at 30 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. Frank Pucci provided the assist. Lansfield's next tally made the score 5-0 Niagara Falls with 7:04 left in the second period. The Canucks had gotten the advantage when Welland's Cole Hamilton was sent off for head contact. Matthew Baldinelli picked up the assist.

The Jr. Canadians were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as Niagara Falls was able to score four times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:18 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Canucks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 14 minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Niagara Falls surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. The Canucks forced Welland's goalies to work in net, finishing with 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Chris Janzen made 25 stops and Brandon McCorriston made 15. Niagara Falls' goal total was higher than its season average. The Canucks average 3.9 goals per game.

Niagara Falls additionally got points from Pucci, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Patrick McCabe, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Sean Farquharson, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Matthew Marsden, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Austin Bottrell also scored for Niagara Falls. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Peter Falivena and Luke Laurin, who each chipped in one and Thomas Flack and Andrew Barbeau, who contributed two each.

The Jr. Canadians' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game Welland had been spending in the box. The Jr. Canadians had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 15 chances.

Adam Dentico made 26 saves for Niagara Falls on 28 shots. Team's McCabe and Farquharson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Welland ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nicholas Boehmer was ejected from the game.
