Chatham survives Lambton Shores comeback, wins 9-7

The Chatham Maroons came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Lambton Shores Predators, but did just enough to escape with a 9-7 victory.

Chatham led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Maroons' Teddy McGeen scored at 17:44 in the second period to put Chatham up 8-5.

The Maroons got the win on the strength of a great game by Devin Panzeca, who had two goals and two assists. Panzeca scored the first of his two goals at 7:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lambton Shores. Steven Beenackers picked up the assist. Panzeca's next tally made the score 6-5 Chatham with 13:09 left in the second period. Michael Levesque provided the assist.

Lambton Shores' power play was ineffective against Chatham's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Maroons forced the Predators goalie Anthony Hurtubise to work between the pipes, taking 59 shots. Chatham surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Maroons average 4.7 goals per contest.

Chatham additionally got points from Dede Cato, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Ross Krieger, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Beenackers, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, McGeen, who also had two goals and one assist, and Levesque, who also registered one goal and two assists. Chatham also got a goal from Gus Ford as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Nolan VandenBoorn, who had one, Michael Douglas, who had three, and Connor Koviak and Ian Faubert, who each chipped in two.

Lambton Shores stifled Chatham's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Predators' offense rang up 36 shots on the Maroons' net. Lambton Shores found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Predators average 3.1 goals per game.

Lambton Shores was helped by Matthew Philip, who racked up three goals and one assist. Lambton Shores also got points from Ethan Sarfati, who also tallied two goals and two assists, Andrew Kim, who also had one goal and two assists, and Gino Mini, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Lambton Shores received assists from Franco Sproviero, who had five and Calvin Hughson, Connor Merritt, and Colin Burns, who contributed one each.

Chatham's Brendan Johnston stopped 29 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Maroons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Hurtubise rejected 50 shots on goal for the Predators. Lambton Shores incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
