Leamington outlasts Sarnia, 4-2Sarnia Arena Sat, Feb 06, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Leamington Flyers and the Sarnia Legionnaires were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Leamington made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Nicolas Mainella's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Sarnia's power play was ineffective against the Flyers' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Leamington was sparked by Mainella, who finished with one goal. Mainella scored 8:32 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Leamington. Zach Guilbeault picked up the assist. The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Leamington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game. Leamington additionally got points from Guilbeault, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Leamington included Colin Moore and Mark Gangnon, who scored one goal each. In addition, Leamington received assists from Joe Urbanic and Cale Phibbs, who contributed one each. The Legionnaires were helped by Konnor Roskovich, who tallied one goal. Roskovich scored 17:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. Jordan Fogarty provided the assist. Brandon Layman also scored for Sarnia. More assists for Sarnia came via Sam McCormack, who had one. Tyler Wall recorded 22 saves for the Flyers. Leamington registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Sarnia's Shayne Battler stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Legionnaires incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sarnia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brock Perry was ejected from the game.
