Coulter nets hat trick, leads Elmira to 7-3 win over Cambridge

The Cambridge Winter Hawks could not stop the Elmira Sugar Kings' Zac Coulter, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-3 win.

Coulter notched his first tally 5:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:23 into the third and at 19:16 into the third.

Cambridge was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Elmira was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Sugar Kings stifled the Winter Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Elmira kept Cambridge's goalie busy throughout the game, and Owen Savory made 40 saves on 47 shots. The Sugar Kings surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Elmira averages 3.7 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Elmira additionally got points from Mackenzie MacSorley, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Kevin Fitzpatrick, who also had one goal and two assists. Elmira also got a goal from Kyle Soper as well. In addition, Elmira received assists from Rob Kohli, who had two, Ethan Skinner, who had three, and Beau Goehrum, Alex Peterson, and Klayton Hoelscher, who each chipped in one.

The Sugar Kings were unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Alex Mutton, who tallied two goals. Mutton scored the first of his two goals at 3:26 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Robert Proner assisted on the tally. Mutton's next tally made the score 2-2 with 8:06 left in the second period. Matt Steen picked up the assist. Cambridge also got points from Sean Ross, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Cambridge came via Scott Del Zotto, Kyle Heitzner, and Matt MacKay, who contributed one each.

Liam Devine rejected 39 shots on goal for Elmira. The Sugar Kings ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For Elmira, Ryley Cribbin was ejected from the game. Cambridge totaled 33 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Winter Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Liam Hurley was ejected from the game.
