LaSalle hangs on, beats Sarnia 3-1Sarnia Arena Thu, Feb 04, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The LaSalle Vipers took the lead against the Sarnia Legionnaires in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory. Nathan Savage provided LaSalle with the game-winning tally when he scored 7:43 into the first period. The Vipers played down a man on Nolan Gardiner's cross checking. Daniel Beaudoin provided the assist.Savage was all over the ice for LaSalle, as he had two goals in the win. The Vipers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes. LaSalle stifled Sarnia's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Legionnaires were unable to stop the Vipers from sending pucks towards the net, and LaSalle eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. LaSalle additionally got points from Beaudoin, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for LaSalle came via Eric Kirby and Brett Primeau, who contributed one each. Sarnia's offense operated below its season average. The Legionnaires put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Sarnia was led by Brandon Layman, who scored the team's only goal. Layman scored 12:47 into the third period to make the score 2-1 LaSalle. Brock Perry picked up the assist. The Vipers' Paolo Battisti stopped 22 shots out of the 23 that he faced. LaSalle registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Aidan Hughes rejected 35 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. Sarnia incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
