London boosted by Hughes' play in net, beats St. Thomas 5-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Connor Hughes helped the London Nationals defeat the St. Thomas Stars, 5-1.

London was led by Austin Kemp, who registered one goal. Kemp scored 9:46 into the first period to make the score 2-1 London. Trevor Dulong assisted on the tally.

The Nationals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Others who scored for London included Tanner Ferreira, Scott Goodman, Rai Di Loreto, and Max Vinogradov, who scored one goal each. In addition, London received assists from Scott Dorion, Kevin Madden, Jordan Di Cicco, John Adams, Matt Bean, Sam Harris, Colin Wilson, and Brenden Trottier, who contributed one each.

St. Thomas' offense operated below its season average. The Stars average 4.1 goals per game. St. Thomas' offense rang up 32 shots on London's net.

The Stars were led by Alex Turko, who scored the team's only goal. Turko scored 3:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Ethan Nother picked up the assist.

Hughes rejected 31 shots on goal for the Nationals. London incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. St. Thomas' starting goalie, Dan Black, made five saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Nikolas Dampier, who stopped 16 shots. The Stars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
