Kitchener holds on for 5-3 win against Guelph

The Guelph Hurricanes tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Kitchener Dutchmen held on for a 5-3 victory.

Kitchener made the score 5-1 on a goal by Alex Demrovsky at 1:21 in the third period, and Guelph got as close as 5-3 when Sebastian Stangherlin scored 17:27 into the third period.

Adam Kawalec was all over the ice for the Dutchmen, as he tallied two goals and three assists in the win. Kawalec scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. Kitchener had gotten the advantage when the Hurricanes' Tyler Burns was sent off for tripping. Connor Cole picked up the assist. Kawalec's next tally on the power play made the score 4-1 Kitchener with 4:39 left in the second period. Demrovsky provided the assist.

The Dutchmen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kitchener also got points from Logan Schmidt, who also registered one goal and two assists, Demrovsky, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Ryan Migliaccio, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Michael Alberga, who had one.

Guelph's offense rang up 33 shots on Kitchener's net. The Hurricanes struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 38 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays.

Guelph was helped by Lucas Dybowski, who had one goal. Dybowski scored 14:16 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener. Kevin Gergely assisted on the tally. Guelph additionally got points from Stangherlin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Guelph also got a goal from Chris Poletek as well. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Ryan Waterhouse, who had one and Cameron Stokes, who had two.

Cossimo Lazzarino rejected 30 shots on goal for the Dutchmen. Jason DaSilva recorded 24 saves for the Hurricanes. Guelph registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
