Ancaster beats Niagara Falls 7-0 as Ceci gains shutout

The Ancaster Avalanche used a sparkling performance by Cole Ceci to take down the Niagara Falls Canucks, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Ancaster's 7-0 shutout victory.

The Avalanche's penalty kill excelled, as Ancaster gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Avalanche stifled Niagara Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ancaster's defensive play was more effective than usual against the Canucks. The Avalanche allow 3.0 goals per game. Ancaster forced Niagara Falls goalie Adam Dentico to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Avalanche outdid their season average for goals scored. Ancaster averages 4.0 goals per game. The Avalanche's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Ancaster was helped by Nick Gauvin, who racked up one goal and one assist. Gauvin scored 18:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ancaster. Ben Hughes picked up the assist. Ancaster also got points from Hughes, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Jesse Hilton, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Owen Burnell, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Ancaster also got a goal from Joshua Pace as well. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Owen Norton, who had one and Max Balinson and Lucas Pozzobon, who contributed two each.

The Canucks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Niagara Falls averages 3.7 goals per game. The Avalanche were unable to stop the Canucks from sending pucks towards the net, and Niagara Falls eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Ancaster's Ceci stopped 34 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Avalanche incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Ancaster, Pozzobon was ejected from the game. Dentico rejected 24 shots on goal for the Canucks. Niagara Falls incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
