Guelph falls to Elmira in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

Ethan Skinner gave the Elmira Sugar Kings a 6-5 (OT) victory over the Guelph Hurricanes when he scored 1:27 into the extra period.

Elmira almost relinquished a four-score lead. The Sugar Kings made the score 4-0 on a goal by Alex Peterson at 18:16 in the first period. Guelph got to within 4-3 on a goal by Dylan Wallace at 5:59 in the third period.

Elmira got the win behind a great game by Skinner, who had two goals and three assists. Skinner scored the first of his two goals at 10:58 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Elmira. Zac Coulter picked up the assist. Skinner's next tally made the score 6-5 Elmira with 18:33 left in overtime. The Sugar Kings had taken the advantage when the Hurricanes' Quinn Hanna got sent off for slashing. Coulter assisted on the tally.

Elmira stifled Guelph's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Sugar Kings' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Elmira averages 3.7 goals per contest.

Elmira also got points from Coulter, who also grabbed two goals and two assists. Zac Cameron also scored for Elmira. In addition, Elmira received assists from Mackenzie MacSorley, who had two and Colton Culbert, Klayton Hoelscher, Ryan Walsh, and Ty Biles, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes kept the Sugar Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Reinhart made 39 saves on 44 shots.

Guelph was led by Ryan Burns, who had two goals and one assist. Burns scored the first of his two goals at 4:28 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Elmira. Hanna provided the assist. Burns' next tally made the score 5-5 with zero seconds left in the third period. Others who scored for Guelph included Chris Poletek and Lucas Dybowski, who each put in one. More assists for Guelph came via Sebastian Stangherlin, Cameron Stokes, Cameron Palmer, Ryan Waterhouse, and Tyler Burns, who contributed one each.

Elmira totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Sugar Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Peterson was ejected from the game. The Hurricanes took out Christian Propp after he had made eight saves and installed Jason DaSilva in goal, where he finished with 12 saves and the loss. Guelph incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
