Fort Erie holds on for 5-4 win against Thorold

The Thorold Blackhawks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Fort Erie Meteors held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Ben Evans put Fort Erie up 4-1 in the second period, but Thorold pulled to within one on Brendan D`Agostino's tally 8:31 into the third period.

The Meteors forced the Blackhawks goalie Josh Astorino to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Fort Erie also got points from Holden Garlent, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Fort Erie also got a goal from Danial Singer as well. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Bryce Martin, who had two, Anthony Passero, who had three, and Darien Kielb, Cody Petawabano, and Garrett Jennings, who contributed one each.

Thorold's offense rang up 47 shots on Fort Erie's net. The Blackhawks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Thorold was helped by David D`Agostino, who registered one goal and two assists. D`Agostino scored on the power play 4:49 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Fort Erie. The Blackhawks earned a power play opportunity when Alex McAteer was put in the box for slashing. Jake Lloyd provided the assist. Thorold additionally got points from D`Agostino, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Anton Trublin, who also had one goal and one assist. Cal Davis also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Greg Christmas and Colin Farrell, who each chipped in one.

The Meteors' Brayden Lachance stopped 43 shots out of the 47 that he faced. Fort Erie incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Astorino recorded 32 saves for Thorold. The Blackhawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For Thorold, Nathan Dosa was ejected from the game.
