Sarnia downs St. Thomas in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Sarnia Legionnaires' Ryan Vendramin scored 2:57 into overtime to beat the St. Thomas Stars, 4-3 (OT).

Sarnia was sparked by Vendramin, who registered one goal.

The Legionnaires put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Thomas to score on any of its five power plays. Sarnia forced the Stars goalie Nikolas Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Sarnia additionally got points from Jordan Fogarty, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Sarnia also had goals scored by Alec DeKoning and Brock Perry, who scored one goal each. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Brandon Layman, who had two and Sam McCormack, Ryan Trottier, Jarret Marks, and Brad Yowart, who contributed one each.

St. Thomas excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Stars' offense rang up 38 shots on the Legionnaires' net.

St. Thomas was helped by Gage Stephney, who finished with one goal. Stephney scored 2:24 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Cal Horvat provided the assist. St. Thomas also got points from Carson Brookshaw, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. St. Thomas also got a goal from Carter McCormick as well. More assists for St. Thomas came via Jake Reed, who had two and Matt MacPherson and Matt McJannet, who each chipped in one.

Shayne Battler rejected 35 shots on goal for Sarnia. The Legionnaires incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Dampier recorded 31 saves for the Stars. St. Thomas incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
