Kitchener hangs on, beats Brampton 4-2Victoria Park Arena Fri, Jan 22, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Connor Cole scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Kitchener Dutchmen held off the challenges of the Brampton Bombers in a tough 4-2 win. Cole provided Kitchener with the game-winning tally when he scored 17:12 into the first period. Michael Alberga assisted on the tally.The Dutchmen's penalty kill excelled, as Kitchener gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. The Dutchmen were sparked by Jason Willms, who racked up one goal. Willms scored 16:20 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener. Austin Gaboury picked up the assist. Kitchener stifled Brampton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Dutchmen's offense rang up 46 shots on the Bombers' net. Kitchener's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Dutchmen finished with 40 penalty minutes. Kitchener also got points from Cole, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kitchener also had goals scored by Logan Schmidt and Alex Demrovsky, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Owen Lane, Zack Hedley, Carmine Vietri, and Adam Kawalec, who contributed one each. Brampton forced Kitchener goalie Cossimo Lazzarino to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. The Bombers were helped by Mitch Shennette, who had one goal. Shennette scored 18:25 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kitchener. Yianni Liarakos assisted on the tally. Brampton additionally got points from Adel Zivojevic, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Jordan Oshowy, who had one. Cossimo Lazzarino made 45 saves for the Dutchmen on 47 shots. Kitchener registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Eric Pitcher recorded 42 saves for Brampton. The Bombers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
