LaSalle hangs on, beats Leamington 2-0

Daniel Beaudoin scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the LaSalle Vipers held off the challenges of the Leamington Flyers in a tough 2-0 win.

LaSalle took over the lead for good with a goal by Beaudoin at 12:22 in the first period. The Vipers had gained a power play chance when Zak Parlette was whistled for hooking. Nathan Savage assisted on the tally.

LaSalle was boosted by Paolo Battisti, who turned in a shutout with 31 saves. Battisti certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.58 entering the contest.

The Vipers' penalty kill excelled, as LaSalle gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Vipers were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. LaSalle had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Vipers stifled Leamington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. LaSalle could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Vipers put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game.

LaSalle also got points from Savage, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for LaSalle came via Ryan Sarris, who had one and Tyler Russell, who had two.

The Flyers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 13 minors and one major for 121 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 31.0 minutes per game Leamington had been spending in the box. The Flyers' offense operated below their season average. Leamington averages 4.2 goals per game. The Flyers' offense rang up 31 shots on LaSalle's net.

The Vipers registered two goals on 11 power play opportunities. For LaSalle, Nikko Sablone was ejected from the game. Leamington's Tyler Wall stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. For the Flyers, Aaron Langlois, Mark Gangnon, and David Storey were ejected from the contest.
