Hore nets hat trick, leads Caledonia to 5-1 win over Welland

The Welland Jr. Canadians could not stop the Caledonia Corvairs' Matthew Hore, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-1 win.

Hore's first goal came 3:54 into the second period. He then added goals at 4:21 into the second and at 2:34 into the third.

Caledonia forced Welland goalie Chris Janzen to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots.

Caledonia additionally got points from Tyler Hill, who also had one goal and one assist. Mitchell Fitzmorris also scored for Caledonia. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Ryan Moran, Blake Luscombe, and Daniel Volpe, who each chipped in one and Quentin Maksimovich and Jake Brown, who contributed two each.

The Jr. Canadians managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Welland ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Nathan MacDuff, who scored the team's only goal. MacDuff scored on the power play 16:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. A tripping penalty on Hill had put Welland on the power play. Matt Murphy picked up the assist.

Liam Conway rejected 23 shots on goal for the Corvairs. Caledonia incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Jr. Canadians' Janzen stopped 45 shots out of the 50 that he faced. Welland registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
