Kitchener beats Brantford 2-1 after comeback scareKitchener Memorial Auditorium Sun, Jan 17, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brantford 99ers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Kitchener Dutchmen held on for a 2-1 victory. A goal by Zack Hedley put Kitchener up 2-0 in the first period, but Brantford pulled to within one on Isaac Nurse's tally 11:03 into the third period. The Dutchmen were led by goalie Luke Richardson, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Richardson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.11 entering the contest. Kitchener could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Dutchmen put an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game. The 99ers were unable to stop Kitchener from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dutchmen eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Kitchener was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 32 penalty minutes. Owen Lane also scored for Kitchener. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Nathan Grossi, Jason Willms, Connor Cole, and Adam Kawalec, who each chipped in one. Brantford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the 99ers finished with 28 penalty minutes. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Justin Donnelly and Matthew Woods, who contributed one each. The Dutchmen registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Will Rawski rejected 30 shots on goal for Brantford. The 99ers registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
