Phibbs' goals lift Leamington to 4-0 victory over St. Thomas

Behind a great game by Cale Phibbs, who had two goals, the Leamington Flyers defeated the St. Thomas Stars, 4-0.

Phibbs' tallies came at 2:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington and 12:36 into the second to make the score 2-0 Leamington.

Tyler Wall frustrated St. Thomas' offense all game, and stopped 26 shots en route to a shutout. Wall certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.5 entering the contest.

Leamington forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers had been averaging 29.0 minutes in penalties per game. Leamington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four St. Thomas power plays.

Leamington also got points from Scott Emerson, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Leamington also got a goal from Mark Gangnon as well. More assists for Leamington came via Mitchell Crevatin, who had two and Mitchell Amante and Liam Hogan, who each chipped in one.

The Stars could not produce up to their normal offensive output. St. Thomas averages 4.1 goals per game.

The Flyers registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Team's Luke Sanko and Zach Guilbeault were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Dan Black made 25 saves for the Stars on 28 shots. St. Thomas ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For the Stars, Cal Horvat was ejected from the game.
